My expertise lies in the area of knowledge representation with Semantic Web techniques. My primary focus is in the development, representation and maintenance of vocabularies (from simple subject lists to thesauri and ontologies). Such a shared "conceptual frame of mind" is necessary in different cases. How to develop such a shared conceptual frame of mind is part of my research as a Post-doc at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam.

My daily work is to consult both my colleagues and external customers on the field of statistics. By supporting researchers in doing statistically correct experiments and data analysis the overall quality of research is better. Subjects that are covered most frequently are sampling and analysis errors.

My daily work is in the areas of data analysis, statistical support, and software development. I analyse data/information flows that are important for our customers, I structure the information and create dedicated web applications. The aim of these applications is to support the customer in making the work easier, by making the data better accessable, and by guaranteeing the continuity of the information.

Originally, I graduated as a chemometrist with a specialisation in spectroscopic sensordevelopment. Later on I have specialised in logistics, data analysis and traceability. I am experienced in developping models for economic optimisation of product leakage in processing industry. My interesses are in the field of traceability concepts and food safety in food supply chains. In these fields, I often fulfil the role of coordinator and project leader.

My expertise is in the field of knowledge management, knowledge representation and reasoning, Semantic Web languages (RDF, OWL, SPARQL), and in applying these technologies in system design. By disclosing knowledge in organisations like TIFN (Top Institute Food and Nutrition), we can link data sources, exchange information more easily, and supporting the end user in finding relevant information.

My work focus is in the field of making information in databases accessable for various user communities. Each user community is supported in storing and retrieving information according to their own needs. I am involve in various projects, such as the Wageningen Experience Box, and Green Technology in Catering. Within these projects, I analyse information processes. An additional interest is the field of user experience of digital products (websites, applications); usability, accessability and technical aspects play an important role.

I am interested in applyinf information and knowledge management in real-life applications. By making knowledge available in a usable way, we can prevent that again and again the same knowledge is discovered, and that valuable expertise is lost due to personnel changes.

I have co-designed FoodPrint and ROCK, both methods that are aimed at transparancy and reuse of knowledge. I work at projects in knowledge-intensive image analysis, and web-based knowledge disclosure.

Shortly, I am involved in the following areas. I am working on my PhD on automated support of quuantitative research processes. Moreover, I wok on dynamic and -- more and more often -- probabilistic modelling, with respect to food safety and sensoric and physical product properties. Finally, I am interested in information analysis, computer system design and development.

I am mainly involved in software development for the Information Management group and for the Image Analysis group. The emphasis is on the presentation of information for the user and on processing data from various models. I also cooperate on a continuos develoment of the group's software development environment and its maintenance, hereby ensuring that our work is easier transferable.

Mariƫlle Timmer

My focus is in process and information analysis. With this focus, I am a ranslator between our customers' needs and their ICT applications. In my daily work, I analyse business processes, destill the information needs from these processes, and structure and model this information into a design. Together with the customer, I formulate the requirements for (web) applications. Such applications support the customer in storing, disclosing, and transferring their knowledge.

My job is to develop the strategy of the Information Management group, in terms of new research and corresponding projects. Our focus points are semantics, knowledge transfer and Web. My position as professor in Knowledge management in Agrifood Domain at the VU Amsterdam is a link between academic research and its application in real-life situations. Besides being the manager of the IM group, I also fulfill a role as project leader in projects in the field of knowledge management at TI Food and Nutrition.

Jan Vogels

My daily business is in the areas of data analysis, software development and database development. I work at structuring information and data flows of customers, and creating useful (web) applications or database solutions. Such applications and databases are aimed at making work easier, data more accessable, and ensuring a continuity in the information for the customer.

My work incorporates aspects of both Information Management and Computer Vision. Computer systems fail in many basic tasks because they cannot understand the information they hold, whether textual or visual. As a result of this they have brought many people little or no improvement in their working life. This is something I would like to change. One project I am involved in is Food Informatics, which aims to improve the exchange and reuse of scientific expertise.

I like to work on giving users the possibility to optimally use available information and knowledge. One of the projects that I contributed to is the development of a system that can detect emerging risks in food chains. I am interested in combining information from various sources and areas, reasoning with the information and finding patterns.
